The port of Motril is located just 90 miles from Africa, on the Strait of Gibraltar. It is important for trade between the European and African continents. Located in the southern part of the Peninsula, the port began exporting sugar, salt and iron in the early 1900s. The port has seen a massive increase in passenger traffic in recent decades.
Getting to and from the port
By car the Motril port is directly connected to the A-7 motorway, which provides links to Granada, a 30-minute drive, Málaga, 45 minutes away, Almería, 45 minutes, and Jaén and Antequera, which are around a 60 drive.
